Castellon is situated along the coast of Spain which forms the popular Costa Azahar . The Santa María de la Asunción Cathedral or the Procathedral of Saint Mary is a gothic style cathedral which was originally built during the 13 th century. This century-old cathedral has gone through so many physical changes - it was rebuilt around the 14 th century then demolished at the time of the civil war only to be rebuilt all over again in the 1940s. Until this very day, unfortunately, the Santa María de la Asunción Cathedral still remains unfinished. Beautiful original carvings can be found here as well as the crosses that were used in processions and the tapestries made by Ribalta and Oliet.

Las Capuchinas Convent
The Las Capuchinas Convent dates back to the 18th century and houses various artworks. It is most notable for the paintings by the artist Zurbarán and the sculptures which were created during the 17th as well as 18th century.
Santa María de Lladó Basilica
The Santa María de Lladó Basilica is one of the more notable sites to see while visiting the Castellon province. Once inside, you will be greeted with various artworks from sculptures made by Benlliure to paintings created by Puig. It was built back in the 18th century and aside from its beautiful Tuscan inspired fa the whole place also looks majestic, somewhat rising over a colonnade. The El Fadri, or the single, is a picturesque bell-tower of the procathedral and was actually built around the 16th century. This is definitely a must-see for visiting tourists who want to really get a feel of what the Castellon province is like. The El Fadri is actually the city symbol of the Castellon and is located right smack in the middle of the Cathedral as the Abbey. Apart from being used to remind the townspeople what time it is, the El Fadri is also usually used to announce to the people the various events that are going to happen in Castellon. The Plaza de Santa Clara is a beautiful open square, which is also Castellon s market place. This plaza has a nice system of modern style archways that surrounds the square. You will also see a beautiful modern structure which was made by the artist Llorenc Poy.
The province of Castellon isn t really big at all, although because of its relatively small size it makes a great place to just walk around in. Walking around wouldn t wear you out but in turn you will get to experience the various sights and sounds that this peaceful Spanish town has to offer. The streets of Castellon are also nicely decorated with a line of orange trees, which gives you a glimpse of its old-world feel. Just take a stroll down to Avenida Rey Don Jaime and you will be pleasantly surprised to see Castellon s modern side. This avenida is literally filled with various modern architecture - starting from the buildings down to the trendy shops. If you want to go to a place wherein you will truly be able to mingle with the locals of Castellon, head off to Ribalta Park wherein you will be able to see the locals go about their daily routines - from just taking a quiet stroll to simply passing the time.
Make sure you also stop by the Llotja del Canem or the Hemp Exchange Market, which was built around the early 17th century. This is where traders usually sell hempen cloth as well as ropes. This kind of trade used to be on of the driving forces of the Castellon province s economy. However, the local university of Castellon uses the Hemp Exchange Market for its carious cultural events as well as all sorts of exhibitions.

It was built in 15th century and now displays historical exhibitions. It can be found right in between the Plaza Mayor and the La Lonia. Its main doors are what get tourists interested because of its elegant and ornate carvings that are very rare finds.
